Today I want to suggest you to make a great napkin for kitche called lunch mat. Sometimes one wants to bring a little more sun in life, so the fabric for the lunch mats was selected of bright colours. Well, let's start working!
You need:
- two pieces of fabric, 20 x 110 cm
- polyester batting (100 g/m3) 45x45 cm
- another piece of fabric 45x45 cm (for the back side of our lunch Mat)
- scissors
- roller knife
- ruler (with an angle marking of 600)
- mat for cutting
- pins
- sewing machine
- iron
Cut triangles with angles of 600 using the ruler and knife.
Take three triangles of one colour and three of another.
Lay out the triangles to make a hexagon.
Divide them in two parts for more convenience.
Stitch them separately by three pieces.
Each seam is well ironed.
Now fold the two halves with the right sides together and stitch.
All triangles should converge at one point in the center.
Cut out batting and fabric for the back side of the lunch-mate according to the shape of the hexagon, with seam allowances of 2 cm for each side.
Fold the top (colour) hexagon and the batting and steam-iron them (at the maximum temperature for this fabric).
Cut off the excess of batting with the ruler and knife.
Face the resulting ironed sandwich and the fabric for the back side. Pin, stitch together (stepping back 0.75 cm from the edge — the width of the presser foot) leaving the place for turning unsewn.
Cut off the corners and turn the lunch-mat outside in.
And again steam-iron all three layers together.
To connect all three layers, make a decorative stitching. It can be free-running or regular geometric along the seams. The main thing is to connect all three layers.
Now, stitch along the perimeter (the very edge — 0.25 cm) to sew the hole for turning and to fix the perimeter.
And I love making double stitching, stitch 2 is made at the width of the foot.
It is only left to bake different sweeties, set the table and please yourself and your dearest ones!
