I offer a series of simple DIYs on embroidery in the technique of decorative mesh, or 'cross for the lazy', as my friend called it :)
This technique is quite simple even for beginners. The cloth is stretched on a hoop, it may be straight or diamond shaped. The intersection of threads are fixed to fabric with pin stitches — they can be straight or diagonal. The squares of the net are filled with a variety of stitches laid in different directions in a certain way. These stitches — chain, knots, Rococo, loops — are called 'cross cuttings'. The pattern is made with a feather stitch. The decorative mashes are usually used for tablecloths, napkins, towels, pillows. I adorn pouches for herbs with this embroidery.
For embroidery, you need
- fabric (I have flax)
- threads (floss, iris)
- needle with a wide eye
- scissors
- hoop
- ruler
- pencil
Before you stretch the net, mark lines on the fabric with the pencil. The size of the squares may vary from 0.5 to 1 cm depending on the size of the pattern. In this case, I draw a square of 8 cm x 8 cm with 1 cm squares.
Further, according to the pattern, pass the threads from top to bottom, then from left to right (or vice versa — doesn't matter). Do not put the thread along the contour of the square — at the end, it is embroidered with the straight stitch. You get such a net:
This is the base of the future pattern (usually it is performed with threads of dark tones). Then the intersection of the thread are fixed to fabric with pinning stitches.
In this embroidery, the net is fixed with cross stitches of two colours. At first, with yellow threads (the hearts of the future flowers). Make the stitches missing one square as follows:
Then, the rest of the crossing threads are fixed with green. You get such a net:
Now embroider the squares. The pattern consists of 3 stitches that resemble arrows, embroidered in different directions.See that all three stitches met in one point.
Fill the squares with the 'arrows' from left to right, first the top row of the future flowers, then the lower.
In conclusion, embroider the contour with a feather or straight stitch. So, our embroidery is ready:
Here is an example of the finished item using this pattern - tender daisies.
I hope my DIY turned to be interesting and useful. See you soon!
