I am often asked how to make a handmade application? I will share it with you.
Note that there are different ways. There are no secrets, a lot of information is given on the Internet. I will describe as I do, the result is my work.
I use a convenient way that allows you to apply most accurately, close to the sketch.
So, scroll down and read the description, I hope everything will be clear.
Photo 1. I use freeze paper, search the Internet if you do not know what it is. I draw a sketch and transfer it to the lumen on the paper for freezing.
Photo 2. I'm drawing on the mat side and number the details.
Photo 3. Cut out, and using a heated iron, I attach paper for freezing to the front side of the fabric.
Photo 4. I cut out details with outsize and I apply a little glue on the edge of a detail. Any water-soluble pencil glue will do.
Photo 5, 6. I fold the outsize and press. I join the parts together, with the help of glue, apply a little bit, for easy grip. If you apply too much glue, it will dry, adhere strongly and it will be difficult to sew.
Photo 7. Next, I remove the paper for freezing, it is removed easily without traces on the fabric.
Photo 8, 9. Sewing. I have chosen Madeira Aerofil 120 threads, 11 or 12 bohin needles. Sew the details with small stitches, about 1 mm long, over the edge, at a distance from each other of about 2 mm, you can rarely do stitches, depending on the work. For example, if the item is large in a large panel.
Photo 10. Look at the scheme, I have drawn it large. The needle goes from the part (preferably from the fold of the fabric) and goes through the fabric of the background perpendicular to the edge of the part, then the work takes place under an angle of 45° and goes through the fabric fold, then repeat. Do not pull. I usually use threads of a matching color to a detail, but sometimes matching the background color, it depends. When you become skillful, the stitches will be small, almost invisible.
