Paints: Manufacturers Overview
- Category: Materials and tools
- Practices: Leather working & coloring
You often ask about paints with which we create. This topic is deep, you cannot describe it in a few words... and each artist has his/her favourite painting (not afraid to say) technique on leather with which he/she works. We would like to introduce you the paints with which we love to create, as well as those with which we have to work as they are already bought :)
Paints is a separate item among major expenses, so they are not purchased at once. We "collected" them over the years in search of perfect and desired colours. So if you are a maniac, or want to become one, then this article is for you :)
Our creativity is multifaceted, we use different techniques in our products, a lot of colour combinations we keep in mind, and we are constantly looking for the right shade. Therefore, one of the main rules: if you cannot buy, mix!
We have even bought this box with jars. It is inexpensive, convenient, and very practical. Firstly, experiment begins on the palette. Sometimes it flows smoothly into recipes-monsters, but sometimes we get a new and unique colour on the product (as for designer work and requests to copy them). The jars look like this later:
Let's start the overview with American paints:
NEOPAQUE & LUMIERE by Jaquard
One of the most favorite paints. They apply well and hold on long. They penetrate the pores deeply and if they are erased from leather, then with it.
St. Petersburg paints by WizzArt
We met with the manufacturers of these paints at the exhibition 2 years ago, we still use and love them. Tint paints are perfect with mother-of-pearl, a series of matte colours requires specific approach, like JAVANA paints.
Other St. Petersburg Paints olki
We also found them at the exhibition. So, it is appropriate to remember our rule: if you buy something, and the result is not what you expected, mix with another manufacturer and experiment! You will be happy and get a new depth of your painting :)
German Jacana paints
We came across this paint in search of pure colour, but, unfortunately, it loses its brightness when dried. Remember our rule. Which one? Right — mix! :) As a result, it fulfils its role perfectly and gives beautiful shades. When applying varnish on top of the picture, colour comes to life!
Finnish TURY Design Paints
TURY paints are beautiful everywhere, but the main palette consists of pastel colours. But the elasticity is amazing! Not so long ago I found a drawback where I did not expect it. We use all paints to work not only on leather, but also on wood. Wood is protected by a two-component car varnish. So the paint cracks from this varnish! Remember the second rule and get going! I have so many ideas!
We couldn't but try professional paints:
BBAYONET (Japan)
This is an alcohol-based paint for deep colouring. What can I say about it? Only good :) A fly in the ointment is a large expense at a fairly high price. On a medium-sized product you need 50 ml from a jar. We are used that acrylic paints are almost endless, and then you come across this paint... you order and your paint is over. We also saw powder paints form Japan... we need to buy them :)
We'll stop our research here, but temporary until we see something interesting!
I would like to summarize and think: what paints wouldn't we buy again?
There is no definite answer. Each manufacturer has its pros and cons for us, for our painting technique. Often, disadvantages in the future become advantages. What do you need for that? To experiment, always and everywhere!
Do not forget to carry out all the tests on a small piece as with the same paint you have different results on different leather!
