We have repeatedly seen crochet trees, benches, other household items and entire installations.
I have seen knitted people, monumental sculptures from threads on the Internet .
It is difficult for a craftsperson to stay indifferent. You immediately get interested, who did it, why, wow...
Liisa Hietanen is an artist, born in 1981, she graduated from the Tampere University of Applied Sciences, Finland.
This information about her is a complete compilation, it is problematic to interview her and take a picture of her. Liisa lives in a small village of Hämeenkyrö, Finland.
Sculptors usually work with concrete, bronze, marble, here the artist uses threads as an artistic search. Knitted fabric, according to Liisa, is the same material as, for example, bronze. Metal bars and cement are used to make figures stable. Models are her neighbors and friends, the villagers of the place where she lives.
The first work of the artist, a sculpture of Pierk, an image of a classroom teacher.
Liisa is known among people thanks to her brother, who shared his sister's work in social networks. Her sculptures in human height participate in exhibitions in the Hihara Art Centre in Tampere, Finland, the future exhibitions are planned far in advance. Each work is a sample of skill, striking similarities with the character figure, face, character, almost doubles.
Creating a knitted sculpture of real size requires patience, skill and time, according to Liisa, it takes about 2 months.
"I watch and have fun looking at the first reaction of people who don't immediately believe it's really done with crochet. But I'm not talking about hunting or anything, but about technology of molding, where bronze casting is a kind of technique. I think, it's good that I use living materials, and something new can be created in the technology of sculpture. Similarly, bronze was once first used as a material for sculpture," says Liisa Hietanen. "The idea is exciting, I can knit for hours, sometimes my back is indignant because of this. For me, crochet is not a fashion or a traditional craft, but first of all, the subject of my artistic research. People often tell me about their crafts. And I think that in my work you can see things at a different angle."
In any case, the sculptures by Liisa Hietanen avoke reactions and feelings in the viewer — something that every artist hopes to achieve.
Crochet fabric reminds people of something everyday and warm, and perhaps for this reason, the work closer to a person than more distant, cold material.
Currently, Liisa is crocheting a figure of a man of the twenties from a photo.
We may wonder, or admire, but creativity is worth respect in any case. People invest time, thoughts, life in their creations. It is not a fact that Liisa will be engaged in sculptural crocheting all her life, but today she is passionate about this.
