The study of embroidery starts with the understanding of how to use silk thread; then you learn the basics of the work that are so typical for Japanese embroidery and almost never used in other cultures. This is followed by the understanding of the nature of each motif so that the correct thread size and colour are selected.
Finally, the actual embroidery begins, it gives freedom to the imagination. The embroiderer sees the final version well and has to perfect all stitches. Watch an interview with Sandra from Manchester (USA) who is into Japanese embroidery. She was visited by Yuko Howes from Japan Outpost.
