The main difficulty when working with natural fabrics — they cannot be scorched and the parts (especially small ones) are fraying in your hands immediately after cutting.
My hobby is embroidery with silk ribbons. Often, when creating a painting, a lot of small silk parts are used. Those who have seen my works, marvel the complexity of execution. There are little secrets that make it much easier to work and I will share one of them with you.
It was said about a certain part / fluid to prevent fraying in one of the books on ribbon embroidery. I tried many methods but the best is thу one I will describe below.
You need:
- silk ribbon or natural fabric
- vanishing marker or pen
- ready or your own pattern
- sharp scissors for needlework
- Fransenstopp liquid by Prym
- hairdryer
Transfer the pattern of the future a petal or leaf on the cloth / silk ribbon. It is better to do it with the vanishing pen, and later on the ink will disappear when treating them with the hairdryer leaving the detail clean.
Apply the Fransenstopp liquid along the contour. Allow it to dry for 15-20 minutes. You can speed up drying with the hairdryer.
Cut out each piece with sharp scissors.
The edges do not fray and you can start to create a painting, flower or brooch!
P.S.: By the way, the Fransenstopp liquid from Prym is perfect for solving many tasks at home. For example, to repair clothes like jeans or shirts. Ideal for fabric applique, Japanese pachwork, floristics, treating edges and eyelets, making small parts for dolls, and, of course, embroidery with silk ribbons.
Yes, after processing, fabric can be washed and ironed.
I hope my tutorial was useful for you. Enjoy creativity and inspiration!
