If you don’t mind, I’d like to give a short preface:
«Children deserve the best we can give» is the slogan for all time, but please remember that one shouldn’t pedestal kids and put all life on the line for kids’ best life ever. As the best father in the world is he who goes out to the park or fishing at the weekend with his child, and does not work overtime to buy an iPhone, is he? :)
We have honestly tried to remember the best moments of our childhood and no one thought of dolls and shoes, but of how «we, along with father, used to play hockey» or «we, together with mum, would bake pies and she dirtied my nose with flour...»
These are the fond memories that gave birth to the gift for my sweet helper as a «together pretext».
So, start with your sketch:
As a result, such an apron for the beloved daughter should come out:
Materials for the future present:
- a little free time;
- mouline threads for needlework;
- fabric for the apron of two matching colours (cotton, linen, mingled fabric);
- needles, sewing threads, sewing machine;
- love and good mood :)
The work will take place in two phases: embroidery of the motif and sewing of the apron itself.
First step — the embroidery:
Transfer the sketch to fabric with the help of erasable or washable marker pen (or even with carbon paper and a simple pencil).
Little by little, embroider the pattern with a two-side satin stitch. Use threads of two shades for the cup.
Shade the folds of cream with a darker pink colour, which would give more volume to the image.
Finish the cupcake with a cherry; put darker stitches along the edge and near the cherry sprig. Remember to put a patch of light.
The inscription is made in one row with a thin beading needle and a narrow feather or backstitch.
Get down to the second step
Cut out the motif, leave a 2-3 cm seam allowance and draw a circle of 10 cm diameter on the back of the detail.
Cut out a 9 cm round in the middle and make slight 2 mm cuts along the circle. Don’t cross the line.
Iron the cuts onto the backside.
Apply and fix the embroidery with a glue stick strictly in the center of the hole.
Stitch Detail 1 to the edge of the hole as close as possible.
The main work is done, admire the intermediate result :)
Put Details 1 and 2 with their right sides together, match their edges and stitch them in about 5 mm from the edge.
Iron the stitch and garnish with a decorative stitch.
Then put the blank and Detail 3 with their right sides together and stitch them along their left and right edges.
Fold Detail 4 in two and stitch the edges of the future ties; cut off the fabric on the corners, turn it outside in and iron the edges.
Next, put the ties between Details 1 and 3, fix them close to the stitches and stitch the details along the upper cut of the chest.
Turn it outside in and iron the edges.
Let’s make the decorative ribbon. Fold Detail 6 in two and stitch its one end; iron the upper seam allowances onto the backside.
Turn it outside in and make sure that the upper folds lie evenly.
Apply the ribbon to Detail 5.
Put the edges and cuts together. Stitch the ribbon to the bottom of the apron. Stitch the second end and turn the ribbon outside in.
Iron the edge and put a decorative stitch adjusting the back of the ribbon at the same time:
Having made similar pintucks at the same distance from the center of Detail 5, pin two parts of the tie:
Stitch the details of the tie along their edges leaving a hole in the upper part of the tie:
Turn the tie outside in and iron the seam allowances onto the seamless side:
Apply the chest to the front part of the tie trying to match the middle of the chest with the bottom of the apron. Stitch the chest to the apron, then iron the seam and put a decorative stitch along the tie edges:
I’d also like to point out one thing:
as the stitch is decorative, it’s not recommended to fix it, so knot the thread ends in pairs: put them through the needle and hide in a cloth fold. Cut off the rest:
As a result, such an apron has come out:
Our gift is ready, we only need to worry about a simple, though cute wrapping and be ready to buy all pie ingredients in a nearby shop :)
Thank you all who has read the tutorial up to the end, this was our debut on Livemaster. I’ll be happy to read your comments (critical also) and see your meaningful voices!
Let’s go baking cakes :)
