Perun is Slavic god of a thunder and military valor, the younger son of Lada and Svaroga, the legendariest of brothers Svarozhichey. Some researchers carry it to gods of the second generation (that is to God the Son), others consider that it is more reasonable to put Perun in one row with gods of the third generation (gods-grandsons). Nevertheless, god Perun regardless of belonging to this or that level of a Slavic pantheon Yasuney is the best-known character of mythology of our far ancestors.
Speaking about that role which this god played in lives of ancient Slavs, first of all, it is worth mentioning that Perun was a patron of the prince and a princely team. As god-Thunderer Perun acted as an allegory of the indestructible luminous intensity which is permanently winning over numerous, but spiritually weak forces of Darkness.
At the same time Perun's symbolism as god of a thunder and lightning is obvious. At least the etymology of his name speaks about it. The name Perun comes from praslavyansky of "perun" that means "to strike, strike". In this name two main functions of Perun – god-Thunderer, the manager by heavenly lightnings, and god-soldier, the violent fighter for honor of the people are perfectly alloyed.
