Orthoceras is a genus of extinct cephalopods, distant relatives of modern octopuses and Nautilus.
Orthoceras had long shells, only they were much smaller than their relatives. Length of orthoceras only about 2 metres. Orthoceras lived in the Ordovician period and became extinct in the late Triassic period (about 200 million years BC).
Long cone-shaped shell orthoceras inside were many cameras that were filled with air. The last chamber was the largest, with danger orthoceras could hide in it.
On the head of orthoceras had large eyes and lots of tentacles. Tentacles, they seized their prey (various small animals), and pulled it to his mouth, where a strong beak.
Orthoceras was not a good swimmer, since the massive shell prevented them to keep the direction. They usually moved slowly near the seabed.
