About the icon: The icon of St. Basil of Moscow is an image of a Christian saint, the patron saint of Moscow and the great prayer book for the Russian land.

Vasily of Moscow was born in 1468 in the family of pious parents John and Mary and was named John at birth. At the age of 25, he left the secular life and took monastic vows with the name Vasily. Then he went to Moscow, where he began to live like a beggar and pray for people. During his holy life, Blessed Basil was awarded the gift of miracle-working and perspicacity.

In 1552 , Vasily was canonized by the Russian Orthodox Church and became considered a saint. Since then, he has been revered as the patron saint of Moscow, a defender from troubles and a prayer book before God for the Russian people.
