Pectolite is the primary mineral in nepheline syenites.
Pectolite is also a hydrothermal mineral in basalt cavities.
It is found in metamorphic rocks enriched with calcium, in serpentinites and peridotites.
The aggregates are mostly radial-fibrous, columnar, spherical spherulites and represent fine-grained and massive clusters.

Pectolite attracted attention after its discovery in 1974 on the island of Haiti, in the Dominican Republic, in the form of a blue variety of pectolite jade — larimara.
