The name pomegranate is consonant with the juicy fruit pomegranate, and it is believed that it came from the Latin words "granatus" or "granum", which mean "pomegranate seed" and just "seed" respectively.
During the middle Ages, pomegranate was ground to powder and mixed with water to treat the stomach and restore vigor.
