The ambiguous picture of Salvador Dali.
The painting "The Great Masturbator" was painted in the autumn of 1929. A little earlier - in August, Salvador Dali saw his future wife, Gala, for the first time. Saw - and lost his head forever, began to flirt desperately with her - despite the fact that he was widely known for his extreme shyness in relations with persons of the opposite sex.
The prototype of the "self-portrait" in the painting was a boulder named La Roca Cavellera at Cape Creus, where, in fact, a decisive explanation between Dali and Gala took place. Cape Creus is Dali's endless source of inspiration, an amazing natural workshop from where the artist borrowed many of his images. In addition to the very characteristic rock that suggested the shape of the Great Masturbator, Dali was also inspired by Hieronymus Bosch's triptych "Garden of Earthly Pleasures", which he met at the Prado Museum during his studies in Madrid.
The painting is made in the technique of enamel on a copper plate - enamel paints are applied in successive layers and then fired in an oven. An amazing and high-quality reproduction - a skilful and complex manual work.
A wonderful decoration for any interior and a great gift!
