Paduk or Padauk-wood of trees of the genus Pterocarpus (pterocarpus) of the Legume family (Fabaceae). It is a valuable tree species. On a fresh cut, it has a bright red color,. which eventually darkens to a rich brown due to exposure to sunlight. Distribution: Central and tropical West Africa, Nigeria, Cameroon, Gabon, Congo, Zaire and Angola. Wood is durable and stable, not subject to rot. Also Paduk is not afraid of termites and other insects. The wood is padauk is easy to work, easy to bend glued, and polished. In the processing of the Paducah emit a weak, sweetish, pleasant aroma.
The surface can be varnished. When processing the surface, alcohol-containing liquids should be avoided, since the natural dyes of this wood are soluble in alcohol.
When stored, it must be protected from water, as the latter causes drips.
