The Vampire Bible (Temple of the Vampire)

Vampire" is stated twice, once at the very beginning and then in the last line to emphasize the importance of this identity statement. You have to understand that you are a Vampire with a capital letter.

Vampirism is a religion (as well as the Night Side is a metaphysical discipline and practical philosophy). Just as members of any religion are designated by the name of their religion as Buddhists, Muslims, Christians, Jews, etc., A vampire is a member of the Vampire religion.

That's why we are members of the Vampire Temple. A vampire defines a class of members of a religion. It would be just as appropriate for us to refer to our religion as a Vampire Temple in the same sense.

You declare that "I am a Vampire" as a choice, as an act of will. The Vampire Credo Balance defines and clarifies the meaning of this statement; but above all, being a Vampire is a choice. First you want to be what you feel you already are. You are a Vampire, a member of the Vampire religion.

And what does our religion consider to be true about the essence of the Vampire? We believe that a Vampire worships his ego and his life as the only true God. We believe that a Vampire trusts reason more than faith, distinguishes between truth and fantasy, respects self-preservation as the highest law, identifies magic as the application of natural law, rejects death as a virtue, and is dedicated to the pleasure of living in the present.
