Sodalite — a bold mineral blue, which in its best examples has valuable decorative qualities. By classification A. E. Fersman and M. Bauer this mineral is classified as semiprecious ornamental stones of the first order. For comparison, it can be noted that the same (first) order of ornamental stones includes such materials as: jade, lapis lazuli, glauconite, vesuvianite, amazonite, Labrador, orletz, malachite, aventurine, quartzite, smoky quartz, rock crystal, agate (with its varieties), Jasper, Jewish stone and rose quartz.
