The “Poppies” masterpiece is made in the style of the craftsmen of the past of “old Dutch”. The artists scrupulously recorded the objective world surrounding them. Still-life painting as a separate branch stood out around 1600 year.
Floral still-life painting was one of the first to stand out as an independent subgenre. Like other genres of that time, it reflected the real features of the life of the Dutch in XVII century, in particular, their passion for floriculture and gardening.
When choosing flowers for a still-life, the main criterion were their beauty and rarity. As a rule, flowers were drawn from nature, because the accuracy and reliability of the image was appreciated.
Poppies. The fiery-red sea, on which the wind draws scarlet waves – is a truly incredibly beautiful sight that paints the fields of Europe and Asia every year. At different times, among different peoples, this simple, and at the same time luxurious flower was a multifaceted symbol that could be interpreted differently depending on the circumstances – but more often it still remained dual, like everything in the universe.
Poppy is a sign of sleep and death, and blooming poppy is an unprecedented beauty, also a symbol of unfading youth and female charm. In Yorkshire, the poppy is called a "blind blow", because the bright red color of the poppy is blinding, and also a "weak head", because the smell of its flowers causes a headache.
The picture is made in the technique of a counting cross on a canvas of light brown color, cotton floss.
