Spodumen (from other Greek. σποδούμενος — "converted to ash") is a mineral, a silicate of lithium and aluminum from the pyroxene group.
There are several varieties of spodumen:
Kunzite (pink, purple, purple color is caused by Mn3 ions );
giddenite (emerald-green and bluish-green color due to the presence of V3 or Cr3 ions, which are isomorphic to replace aluminum ions);
Trifan (transparent colorless, yellow, yellow-green).
Magical properties: Kunzite is a stone with strong energy and with its help he is able to influence the attitude of his master, making them more bright and saturated. Most often it is used during meditation and thanks to this stone the process is smooth and harmonious. Kunzit can also strengthen the intellectual abilities of any person, as a result of which those people whose profession is associated with creativity will receive a real source of inspiration and will be able to work with great enthusiasm and dedication.
Most of the extracted spodumene is used to produce lithium metal. In the glass industry spodumen is used in the production of various types of glass. Well-formed spodumene crystals are in great demand as a valuable collectible material, which is why special searches and mining are conducted for them. Beautifully colored varieties are used in jewelry in the form of faceted inserts, but the use of spodumene as a precious stone is strongly limited by the fact that it is poorly and difficult to cut and Polish, is fragile and can lose its original color under the influence of bright light.
In Russia, the largest spodumene deposits are confined to the pegmatite veins of the Kola Peninsula (Western Caves), where more than 50% of domestic lithium reserves are concentrated.
