Cochineal Extract. Cochineal
The Mexican cochineal is a type of insect that produces a substance used to produce a red dye-carmine.
Natural coloring and printing on textiles: This extract can be used to color any fiber pre-etched with alum, tartar crystals, or walnut. The resulting shades have good light resistance and resistance to washing. Deep reds, carmine and purples depending on the different mordants, mordant combinations and the pH of the dye bath. The color results will also depend on the type of fiber to be dyed.
It is better to make samples first and experiment.
Cochineal Dried Bugs. Cochineal (dried insect shells)
Cochineal is the dried shells of Mexican insects of a silvery-purple color. They need to be crushed and boiled to extract the dye. The result is a color from pink-purple to scarlet, which is different from cochineal extract.
Cochineal-carmine dye, from crimson to bright purple.
