Pure beryl is colorless. Glitter glass. The variety of color of crystals is determined by the composition of impurities: different shades of blue, bluish-green, yellow colors are associated with an admixture of Fe, red or pink-an admixture of Mn, bright green is due to an admixture of Cr[1].
Depending on the color, there are:
Augusta, or Maxis-beryl — dark blue.
Aquamarine-blue, greenish-blue.
bazzite — pale blue.
Noble beryl — apple-green; noble ordinary-transparent, but with a pale color (the term is used mainly in jewelry).
Bixbite — red (also referred to as "red emerald").
Vorobyovite (synonyms: morganite, bixbite) — usually pink, sometimes purple-pink, reddish, amber.
Heliodorus (synonym: davidsonite) - yellow, golden-yellow, orange-yellow.
goshenite — colorless.
Emerald — a rich and bright deep-green, grass-green to lettuce green (the paler the color, the less is appreciated).
Pezzottaite (pedzottaite, or caesium beryl) - rich pink[7]
Rostered colourless or pale pink.
Ordinary beryl is opaque, white or gray in color, is widely distributed, and in cases where it is found in large clusters, it is extracted as an ore to produce beryllium. Transparent varieties of beryl are used as jewelry (precious) stones. Emerald (smaragd, English. Smaragd, Emeraude) is valued as a gemstone of the highest class (order), along with diamond, ruby and cornflower sapphire. Aquamarine and all varieties of noble beryl are also highly valued as jewelry stones.
Beryl and emerald were already known in the time of Pliny and Theophrastus. Most varieties of beryl have been used in jewelry since ancient times, although they were considered different stones due to their different colors; no distinction was often made between them and similar minerals. So, beryl in ancient times was called only yellow differences; green ones were often considered chrysolite, and colorless ones were not distinguished from quartz.
How to keep
