Traditional glass beads from Ghana, or Krobo beads, are the main area of production of the Krobo highlands. Ghanaian beads are made from recycled glass. Bottles and other glass items are first washed and sorted by color. To create translucent beads with a pattern the glass is crushed into fragments. To make transparent glass beads crushed in a metal mortar pestle to a state of dust, several times and sieved to get very fine powder. For color use ceramic dyes and various pigments. Reusable forms for beads are made of clay. Before placing the glass powder in the mold, the mold is coated with kaolin white clay with a high content, which would prevent the molten glass from sticking to the surface of the mold. The beads form a hole with little sticks from the stems of cassava, while the form is in the furnace, cassava fade forming a hole for a string of beads.Excess glass powder is removed from the surface of the clay mold with a feather. Then the form is sent to the furnace, the melting process takes from half an hour to an hour depending on oven temperature. After removing and cooling, the beads are ready for painting. The paste for painting was prepared from a mixture of pigments, water glass and downed the powder. The pattern is applied with a thin stick. After painting, the beads are again sent to the oven to secure the picture. Transparent beads are subjected to grinding in a mixture of water and sand hands!
