Triskel ' (Triskelion)

Triskel ' aka Triskelion (aka Triskele) is an ancient symbol, presented in the form of three curved lines radiating from one point. He was known by the Celts, the Japanese, ancient Greeks, Etruscans and other peoples. Triskel ' is translated from Greek as "the tripod".

It can be found throughout the settlement of the Indo-European peoples, and most ancient images belong to the Neolithic period. The ancient Celtic Triskel ' is one of the most popular motifs in ornaments and embroidery. Later, in Medieval Europe, Triskel ' moved in heraldry. It can be found not only in Sicily and the Isle of man, but also on the arms of noblemen, cities of the middle ages, on the flags of many lands, provinces and countries.

Triskel ' in common configuration (three curved lines emanating from the center) and the triskeles is very diverse, and these three lines may appear slightly different. For example, they may be in the form of three spirals, or three bent lines in the form of three branches, the three human or animal legs, bent at the knee, like running one after the other, the lines may have the appearance of horses, snakes, dragons, dogs, etc.
Some of these signs have a separate name. For example, Triskel ' with three legs is often used in coats of arms, and it is called a triskelion. Although this name is often used as a synonym for triskele. Sign with three spirals called the "Triple helix". The sign of the snake with three heads is called "the Coil". Sign with three bent in the middle lines – three-beam swastika.

Triskel', indicates the movement of the sun across the sky, divided into three main stages – sunset, sunrise and Zenith. Previously, it was the Triskel ' was the sign of the sun, but then it pushed the cross and the swastika. This assumption is very logical and is probably true.
Another hypothesis States that the Triskel ' is a symbol of the flight of time, expressing the Trinity of existence: birth, life and death. Which, incidentally, does not prevent him to be both a symbol of the sun, which, from the point of view of ancient man, too, takes place daily through these three States.

Another version, common among nedroid, says Triskel ' denotes the relationship between the three prevostii: Fire, Water, Air, up into infinity, and symbolizes a harmonious combination of elements in nature. The balance of Fire, Water and Air provides the energy of life, its security and equanimity. They are symmetrical, that denies the factor depending on changes in events and shows independence and integrity. Like all interpretations of neodarwinism, this version is one of the most beautiful and least believable.

Probably the Celts used Triskel ' in its magic. Unfortunately, all evidence of the ways and purpose of use triskele druids lost, and all the statements of modern authors for this reason – only speculation.

In our days Triskel ' is found in tattoos and jewelry, on the arms of many genera and, of course, in the magical traditions of different peoples.
