Guaiac, or Bakautovoe tree (lat. Guaiacum officinale) is a small plant, up to 10-14 m tall, having a heavy, strong bark of a light gray shade and beautiful blue-purple flowers. Is one of the species belonging to the family Paralytique (lat. Zygophyllaceae). It grows in Western India, South and Central America.
The great value of guaiac wood is, of course, in its wood (bakout), from which both resin and the legendary guaiac essential oil are obtained. That is why the collection, harvesting and storage of raw materials of this useful plant should be approached very responsibly.
Homeopathic medical practice uses the essential oil of this plant to treat persistent headaches, tracheitis, inflammation of the oral cavity, as well as vision disorders. Guaiac oil is so useful that some medical practitioners use it in the production of aphrodisiacs, as it helps to enhance sexual desire in both men and women.
The guaiac tree plant, due to its analgesic and anti-inflammatory properties, is used as an extract to support the healing process in inflammatory diseases of the throat and mouth, such as angina.
