AMETRINE

Ametrine has received the name thanks to the combination of minerals such as amethyst and citrine. Ametrine is a bicolor variety of crystalline quartz. It is also known as two-tone amethyst or bolivianite. The last name of the stone is associated with the largest Deposit of this mineral in Bolivia.

With this mineral is a beautiful legend about tragic love. In the XVII century the Spanish Conquistador don Felipe de Urriola--Goytia married Princess Anahi of the Bolivian Indian tribe of Ouranos. The dowry he received mine, where mined ametrine. Dying, the Princess gave her husband a gorgeous two-tone ametrine, which symbolized the shared love between her people and the husband-the foreigner. Later, don Felipe brought the stone to Spain and presented it as a gift to the court of the Spanish Queen.
