Description
The caduceus (from the Greek word "messenger", "harbinger") were: Greco-Roman God Hermes-mercury, God the healer Ashmun Mesopotamia, ancient Egyptian gods Anubis and sometimes ISIS, the Phoenician God of Bal (Baal, Baal), the Sumerian goddess Ishtar and some other gods and goddesses. In Christianity, the caduceus became the symbol of Sophia. On the ancient Orthodox icons she holds it in her right hand.
There are many interpretations of the values of the caduceus. He is the symbol of the key to bring down the limit between light and darkness, good and evil, life and death.
The wings of the caduceus symbolize the ability to cross any boundary (option – are the personification of the spirit), rod power over the forces of nature, double snake - opposite side of the dualism, which, ultimately, must be connected. The two snakes represent the power connection and separation, good and evil, fire and water, etc.
There is an opinion that the rod or staff is the axis Mundi (or world tree), and up and down which, between Heaven and Earth, move the gods-mediators.
Therefore, the Caduceus was worn by all messengers as a sign of peace and protection, and he was their main attribute. Two snakes with heads facing up symbolize in this case evolution and the beginning of the universe (like Yang in Taoism), or interpreted as two mutually conditioned process of evolutionary development of material forms and a shower that govern material forms. The symmetrical arrangement of the snakes and wings is proof of a balance of opposing forces and harmonious development as the lower, physical and the higher, spiritual level.
Snakes are also associated with the cyclical rebirth of Nature and the restoration of universal Order, when it is violated. Quite often they are equated to the symbol of wisdom.
In Asia minor tradition two snakes were a common symbol of fertility, and in the Mesopotamian tradition woven snake was considered the incarnation of God the healer.
Similar to the caduceus symbol has been found in ancient Indian monuments.
In esoterics of Buddhism, the rod of the caduceus symbolizes the axis Mundi, and the snake is the cosmic energy, serpent-fire or Kundalini traditionally submitted spivshihsya at the base of the spine (the analog world the axis on the scale of the microcosm). Being twisted around a Central axis of the snake are connected in seven points, connect them with the chakras. Kundalini sleeps in the base chakra, and when the result of the evolution wakes up, rises through the spine in three ways: Central, Sushumna, and two lateral, which form two intersecting spirals, the Pingala (right, masculine and active, spiral) and the IDA (the left, a female and passive).
Whatever interpretation of the caduceus (as the number shown above, are not mentioned in the work) turns out to be correct, it is, according to most researchers, was one of the oldest symbols of Creative Power.
Therefore, it was believed that owning a caduceus were open all the knowledge of laws that rule the Nature.
