Tomesode is an official kimono designed for special occasions. It is necessarily black, made of the best silk.
The location of the pattern is also regulated - the bottom of the hem and a little on the sleeve.
Tomesode - kimono, which should be supplemented with the family badge (coat of arms) kamon.
There are five of them here - two in the front and three in the back - in the center and on the sleeves.
The drawing is made in the technique of screen printing, has a gold outline along the contour.
The drawing uses the same elements as in the coat of arms of kamon - primarily wisteria
Wisteria in Japanese sounds like 藤 fuji. Her flower was depicted on the family coat of arms of the Fujiwara clan. The wisteria flower can have many different interpretations, but the general meaning is always favorable, since the long branches of the tree represent a long life, and the word "fuji" itself is consonant with the hieroglyphs "fuji – "immortality".
The image of wisteria is the frame of the camon, and the ornament on the kimono itself consists of it.
The diamond-shaped flower in the center of the kamon is the sign of the Takeda clan, also one of the oldest symbols of Japan.
The butterfly-flower in the kimono pattern combines the features of three kamons - the already mentioned rhombus, kamon tsuta - ivy - kamon of the Matsunaga clan (who was related to the Fujiwara clan) and kamon-butterfly - clan of the Taira house.
Similar transformations - merges of two or three kamon symbols meant that the owner of the item was related to several clans. So, if two large clans entered into kinship ties, a new family could receive a kamon connecting the features of the two clans.
